Hints and tips

What to pack to your maternity bag?

It’s time to reveal what you should pack to your maternity bags. Say goodbye to your long useless lists. I checked for you what you need to feel comfortable during your special day.

Packing, packing, packing when I think about packing I have mixed feelings. As a real woman when I’m packing my suitcase for holiday I would like to take with me everything (to be more specific my wardrobe). So I’m excited because of holiday and from the other hand I’m struggle with choosing witch clothes are more important. As you can imagine packing my maternity bags was a big challenge.

First of all I checked few mums websites with tips what should I have with me on that special day. There was so many ideas that 10 maternity bags could be not enough. So I decided to check on ebay bags which are already prepared. If you did the same and you want to buy it don’t do that. These maternity bags are too expensive (20-40£) and the content is very poor. You can find there couple of maternity pads and breast pads. But to be honest you need at least two full packs of each. Also they giving you samples of gel, shampoo, cream etc. Staff which every woman have at home and can take it to hospital without buying new ones. Besides five nappies for your newborn and one bodysuit is not enough. What does it mean? You will need to spend another 30£.

How I solve it? I found two old bags at home. In first one I packed staff which I find useful before labour and in second one after labour. I took with me:

LABOUR
1 pack of bed mats,
2 pairs of cosy fleece socks,
hair tie,
2 bottles of water,
couple of musli bars,
hair brush, one old nightdress (after labour probably you will need to get rid of it so dont spend money for new one)
some snacks for hubby,
small face towel,
pack of tissues,
small pillow,
tense machine.
Is good idea to take with you some magazines, Ipod or books. Everything what will help you to not thinking about pain.

AFTER LABOUR
2 pack of maernity pads,
1 pack of breast pads, nursing bra
cosmetics: gel, shampoo, body lotion, cream etc,
toothbrush and toothpaste,
2 pack of disposable maternity briefs,
dressnight, robe and slippers,

Your baby staff: nappies for newborn (12 nappies for 24 hours), clothes (3 sets- including one for leaving hospital remember that you need to be aware of weather), baby wipes, nappy cream, baby oil.

Remember about clothes for yourselves its good to take maternity clothes because you will be still a little bigger. Also you should take a copy of your birth plan and any medical notes.
The best time for packing your bag is about 36 weeks.

On the end I want to say that you don’t need to stress to much about your bags. I was send home with 8 cm dilation so when we came back to hospital we left bags in our car. As a result I deliver my lovely boy in my normal clothes and midwife had everything what she needed. If you will forgot about something I’m sure that your hospital will be well prepared.

Great post. I freaked out so much when I packed my hospital bag for the first time! There’s always great huge lists you can find, or 101 things you MAY need!! It’s so much easier the second time round, because you know you, you know what you’ll need! 🙂
