Don’t be scared to be active
How to be active when the weather is not best?
The most important thing is to stay warm and dry in cold weather. To make it possible you need to think about proper clothes. Is all about layers. It’s something that you really want to know if you wish to avoid hypothermia and frostbite. Cold temperatures, strong winds and damp conditions (like rain and snow) steal your body heat. And if you get wet that effect is only magnified. That’s why layers of clothing are so important. They help trap the heat and form a kind of insulation. If you want to read more about layer system check our last post ‘What to wear during outdoor activities‘.
In short, for your first layer, you should choose something that pulls moisture away from your skin, like the moisture wicking fabrics used in high-performance sportswear. Next, add a layer of fleece. For the last layer prepare something waterproof. I know it can be hard to find high-quality clothes. Last time we wrote bout ladies clothes. So now it’s time to check what’s worth to wear when you are a man. And again best men’s fleece you can get from Blacks/Millets. We can recommend men’s Berghaus fleece .
It’s really comfy men’s fleece. My husband chooses it because of 2 zipped handwarmer pockets. He always complains about cold hands. So now (I hope) we solved this problem. Also, his men’s Berghaus fleece is made from insulating AT Optic fleece with stretch binding at the cuffs, collar and hem to help trap warmth inside the fleece.
I’ve never been a big fan of autumn. Everyone talks only about the bad weather and being depressed. But since I became a Mom and my son loves long walks I can see an autumn potential. We have now our favourite autumn activities like searching for treasures leaves, acorns, conkers etc. The only thing you need to do is to remember to wrap up warm and take wellies or other comfortable waterproof shoes. You can read here about women boots which we recommend. So now, If you struggle to choose perfect men’s walking boots you are in the perfect place. My husband wears Brasher men’s hiking boots and he loves them.
I believe he will be wearing them all the time. Maybe expect the summer. They have eVent® technology which ensures that feet remain dry in wet conditions without compromising breathability. Also, they look pretty good and are comfortable. The durable leather fabric provides a hard exterior to shelter your feet from tough terrains like wet and rocky trails.
5 ideas for being active in autumn weather
Autumn can be a really inspirational season for outdoor activities. And you can spend with your family a lovely time. Plus boost your immunity during cold and flu season if you will stay active. Just a few minutes a day can help prevent simple bacterial and viral infections.
Take a Hike
If you can access trails or a park, an autumn/winter walk is a great way to stay active with your family. During a long walk, you can play with games like ‘who will find the biggest stone’ or ‘who will find the most beautiful leaves’ and many more.
Leaf Print Painting
Go outside with your family and start searching for leaves. Small or big it doesn’t matter. Once the leaves have fallen, raking is good exercise.
And what you can do with them it will make your kids more than happy. Painting it’s always a good fun.
Get the bikes out
And head out on lovely autumn bike rides. Admire the colours of the season. if you ride regularly you’ll get to see the leaves changing from green to gold.
Leaves, leaves and more leaves
What can be more fun at this time of year than kicking and throwing leaves in the air, gathering piles of leaves to climb on? Also, hiding in a leaves pile is fun and exciting.
You can hide little treasures like chestnuts or acorns and your kids will need to find them.
Pick a perfect pumpkin
Head to your local farm and have fun picking your perfect pumpkins. You will be surprised at how tired you will after that activity 😉 It’s not so easy to carrying or rolling a big pumpkin.
I’m not the biggest fan because of my asthma but it’s a really good activity. Start slowly with some very gentle running or even walking to ready the muscles for exercise. Gradually increase your pace until, after around 10 minutes, you get to the pace you’re going to maintain for most of the run.
Remember those regular activities can boost your mood which is really important during autumn. We all know that the weather can be quite depressing. Also, don’t forget about proper clothes when you go out.
