Why physical indoor activities for kids are so important?
Nobody wants to be locked at home. Literally NOBODY. Because you can go insane. Especially when you are a kid. A very active kid. So, when the weather is not nice and you can’t go even to your garden, the only solution is to find some interesting indoor activities.
So, why we need physical indoor activities for kids? We know that being active it’s very important for kids in every age. It’s good for their health. Mostly it is important for their healthy growth and development. According to NHS
Pre-schoolers should spend at least 180 minutes (3 hours) a day doing a variety of physical activities spread throughout the day, including active and outdoor play. The more the better. The 180 minutes should include at least 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity.
We are coming with a little help. Here you have our 10 favourite physical activities which everyone can do at home. And what’s most important you don’t need to have a big house or a long hallway. And everything that you can use during those games you probably have at home. So, basically, you have 10 games for free!
Our list of physical indoor activities for kids
Pillow fight– obviously hide everything that has a value for you and it’s made from glass and etc. I think nobody needs an explanation of how this works 😉
Dance party– just turn your favourite music and lets the kids jump, wiggle and do the silly pose. Whatever they like. And of course, do not forget to join them. Also, you can try a ‘freeze dance’ which is a really awesome game.
A race– that’s our son’s favourite indoor activity but our a little bit less. Because he is never tired but we are…after a few courses. How do we play? We always use commends like’ ‘who’s first in the kitchen’ who’s the first one the sofa’ ‘who’s the first in playroom’ and so on.
Jumping on the bed– I don’t believe I’m saying it but yes sometimes we allow him to jump on the bed. It’s not bad to try everything to burn some of the energy. At that moment we always play the song ‘Five little monkeys jumping on the bed’ so he knows when the song is finished he needs to stop.
Obstacle course– we are using everything that we have at home chairs, pillows, table.
Clean up race– Our boy doesn’t like to clean toys after play so, I always try to change it in good fun and we do the race. He always wants to win so, in the end, he cleans most by himself 😉
Follow the leader– The person who will be a leader is saying what the rest need to do and you can come with various commends like jumping, stomping, squatting, jumping jacks, etc’
Wrestling– I always keep that activity for Daddy. They love it. You can use a mat or try it on the rug.
Animal races– Use your imagination and pretend you are animals and hop like a frog, stomp like a dinosaur, jump like a kangaroo and so on.
Don’t touch the lava– who doesn’t know this activity? Obviously, the floor is lava so you need to do everything to not to touch it. You can put on the floor pillows, mats, sheets of paper whatever you want and jump from one to another without touching the floor.
After you finish your physical activities you can try some free educational resources to keep your brain in good shape. Not only mussels are important!
Let us know if you try some of those physical indoor activities for kids and if you know some more do not hesitate to share! More means better especially nowadays.

7 April 2020 at 17:45We have done a lot of these activities in the past week. One thing I have been loving is when we have been out walking I have noticed a lot of kids of all ages playing with each other in their yards and in front of their houses. Because of electronics, this is something I haven’t seen in a long time. It’s nice to see siblings enjoying each other again!

7 April 2020 at 22:55I’m back living with my family and younger siblings because of all the craziness going on right now–Looking forward to trying some of these with them.
Honestly, though, some of us adults without kids could probably make use of a good chunk of these “childish” activities right now, too, so we don’t go insane being cooped up because of COVID-19! Acting like a child in times of high-stress can be really emotionally healing.
I love this post! These are some great ways to have fun with kids at home. Adding in the personal touch made it all the more enjoyable to read. 🙂
8 April 2020 at 00:24While we have been trying to spend time in the yard, we spend most of our day inside. I love finding some really nice indoor activities to play with my kids.
