If you are a regular reader you noticed that I did a short break from blogging and social media. (But I’m coming back!). I needed a ‘me time’. It was a perfect time to think only about myself. To focus on my needs and to clarify what’s really important.
Your life should bo mere important than others
I believe that nowadays everyone should to take a time-out from social media to stop living someone else’s life. We should live our lives for us, not to please expectations. There are so many benefits of taking a break from the virtual world. For me, the most important one was a time to spend with myself, my family without a pressure that I need to post a picture, send a tweet or write a blog post. Also, I was able to learn more about myself and have more time to sleep and rest. It’s a really good way to charge our batteries and start cherish and value ourselves without ‘thumbs’ and ‘hearts’.
Four main reasons to take a break
Do you need more reasons why you should consider a social media detox?
- It’s a trap! Many people who use social media are forgetting how real life looks like. And they fall into the trap of trying to make their lives seem more glamorous than they really are. Lots of influencers, celebrities showing on social media only positive and happy moments. Mostly it looks like they do not have any problems and they don’t know what real struggle means. Unfortunately, a lot of people believes that social media truly represent someone’s life. But hey it’s a fake! You can’t use a filter in real life.
- Your life is tending to be public- everything that we do on social media is recorded by everyone who is following us. So all those people know what we did the last night, what we ate, what we wore. They know everything that we share. We should ask ourselves what we want to show and what we want to keep only for us. A lot of people have a problem with that and they share way too much.
- Time waster- Did you ever recorded how many time you spend on social media? Let say it’s 2 hours every day. And think what you could do for those 2 hours for your family, how lovely you could spend that time with your kids or have a relaxing ‘me time’.
- Self- doubt- When we go through an Instagram feeds with thousands of followers we can see perfect bodies, houses, clothes. It looks like those people have a perfect life and we are starting to compare ourselves with ‘perfect’ Instagrammers. It’s the first step to stop believing in ourselves.
It’s good to know that also celebrities and well-known people are taking a break from social media. Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid, Ed Sheeran, and Justin Bieber and many more. As you can see everyone can be overwhelmed by social media. It’s really important to remember there is a physical world out there. And it’s more interesting than a virtual one. So, put your smartphone away from time to time and cherish your real life.
