DIY: Fun ways to learn colours #2

Most children are able to name one colour by the time they are 36 months. What you need to know when you will start to learn your kids is that you need to be patient. Because the entire learning process is not a straightforward one. To make it easier you should start with matching colours activities.

To help you make that first step I will show you how you can play with your kids because learning colours should be a lot of fun. Also, my activities are mess free! Which is, I believe, good news for every Mum čÖé

Our simple DIY activities:

1. Sorting coloured pompoms with…muffin baking tray!

I’m sure it will grab the attention of every child. It’s a lovely fine motor activity. You will need coloured pompoms and muffin baking tray. You need to start first to show your toddler how to play. Simply put one pompom of each colour on the bottom of the tray to help guide in colour sorting. My 2-year-old did very well by matching all the colours but after a couple of minutes he was bored and started to mixing all colours together. So, soon we want to add to this activity tongs, tweezers and spoon.

2. Colander and coloured pipe cleaners

It’s a very good activity to keep kids busy. We have 4 pipes in each colour. When we start playing I always ask my son to choose all pipes in black colour, red, green etc. He really likes it because he loves to┬ápoke┬áthe pipe cleaners through the holes. Mostly he is interested in┬ápulling them all out and starting again. But I don’t mind because I have couple minutes only for myself and I can drink a warm coffee:) (Yes! Warm! not cold!)

3. Sorting colours with pipe cleaners

Yes, we love pipe cleaners. We used the wooden piece to make a shelf with holes for pipe cleaners. We have about 12 rows and in every row, we have pipe cleaners in different colours. So, if in a first row we have a red pipe cleaner our boy needs to poke there all pipe cleaners in red and same with other colours. He also, helped his Dad to prepare that shelf.

Since we have our son we enjoy simple DIY. We love to prepare activities for him by ourselves. We always ask him to help us because he is excited when he can do a grown-ups stuff. If you know some more learning colours activity please share in comments.
