Disclaimer

We were gifted with this lovely Not Just Nibbles subscription box by Danielle McCann who is a founder of this small company with big ambitions. We received it for review purposes. The views and opinions expressed on this blog are purely my own and will always be 100% honest.

During this lockdown, we did thousands of crafts projects, DIY but we didn’t have a chance to cook something nice with our little boy. So, we were delighted to get a chance to review the subscription cooking box. It’s important to say that Not Just Nibbles subscription is not only about cooking. Your child will learn how to develop a healthy relationship with food. Danielle was a Masterchef contestant but what’s most important she is a designer/illustrator/art director. She studied Nutrition in Culinary Practice at the prestigious Leith’s School of Food and Wine. So as you see she knows how to make a perfect subscription cooking box for kids. Now when you know a little bit about Not Just Nibbles we can jump to our review.

What we got in our box

Not Just Nibbles subscription cooking box for kids

  • A personalised letter from a vegetable character
  • Stickers for Food passport
  • Easy-to-follow illustrated recipe card
  • A safety and skills card
  • All dry ingredients we needed for the meal
  • Personalised certificate to reward kids for their cooking achievements
  • Collectable Great Groceries badge
  • 10 skewers made from bamboo (100% compostable, biodegradable and recyclable)

What we prepared

Every month you will get a box from a different part of the world. Ours was from Greece. So, we had prepared pitta bread from scratch, tzatziki and veggie skewers. It was nice to learn something about Greece especially when summer holidays were cancelled. Plus as a lovely addition for Father’s Day, we got ingredients and recipe card for lovely mini pancakes! Before we start cooking we learn a few things about Greece, talked about their flag and culture. I really like that Not Just Nibbles subscription it’s not only about preparing meals.

Not Just Nibbles subscription

Our learning about cooking and healthy eating we started from preparing pancakes. Our little boy was really excited. Especially when he saw his letter as he knows how to write his name, he knew is something for him. From time to time he was helping me with cakes, muffins but mostly he focused on passing me products than actually on doing something. So, this time was different and you should see his face when he cracked his first egg ever! It was pure enjoyment. Obviously, we had a few fails like a piece of packaging in our pancake batter but it was easy to take out. Also, our little chef tried the uncooked batter ;P But it was only about having fun and less screen time. I was enjoying our together time.

The second meal that we prepared was pitta bread! And to be honest it was my first time with this bread! So it was win-win. I’ve learnt something new and my little boy as well. He was very proud of himself and enjoy it much more than watching TV. We really like everything that helps us to spend creative time. During this uncertain time (lockdown) we did so many new things together but it’s hard to keep kids entertained every day. So, Not Just Nibbles subscription box gave us the opportunity to try something new, develop new skills and learn how to be more creative in the kitchen.

Our verdict for NOT Just Nibbles subscription

We really like everything about this box. We had a lovely time trying new recipes and learning new things. Why you should try to order your own box? The most important reason is that your kid will learn how to cook but also he will be encouraged to eat healthier. Which is so important nowadays when kids are struggling with obesity. The box is also eco-friendly which means that materials used in it are the most environmentally friendly. For us, it’s quite important because we try to live more sustainably. Overall it’s not ‘just another subscription box’. It’s more than that so we appreciate we were able to try it.

What a fabulous idea. It is a real pity that this wasn’t available when my children were younger. I did get them makeup kits and science kits but cooking kits would have been perfect.
