Unusual and (silly) funny baby names

The very first thing which was in my head when I knew that I’m pregnant was ‘Will we have a boy or a girl?’ After a couple of months when we discovered that we are waiting for our son we had to decide about his name. As I assume it’s really big thing for every parents to be. I believe that our first name plays an important role in our life. There is some evidence that a name can influence how a child performs in school and even her career opportunities.

So, when we were discussing baby names our first priority was to throw out any suggestions that had no chance of being our baby’s name. We wanted to be sure that the name will no triggered any negative emotional response to a person in our life, past or present. So if I didn’t like my schoolmate whose name was John we could cross it out. The second thought was to think how another kids might use the name to bully our son. Also we wanted to try to pick a quite unique name. Another important thins was to choose a name which will fit to our language and English. First of all I didn’t want to choose a funny/silly name.

All this things not allow me to understand why people choosing such a weird names for their kids. Obviously I would like to say clearly and loudly that I don’t want to offend anyone. So please don’t think bad about me if you will see here your baby’s name. That’s only my opinion.

Lets get start from the simple name Apple. Or you are a fan of Iphones, Macbooks etc or that’s your favorite fruit. Hmmm lets imagine that situation: My favorite vegetable is cucumber…so that will be my son’s name. Stupid right? So why people keep giving all this foody names? ‘Hi I’m Potato and you? Oh I’m Peaches thanks God my parents prefer fruits than vegies.’ No, really I can’t believe that people are doing it to their kids.

What is your favorite car brand? Why I’m asking? Because in UK one couple have gifted the name of their favorite car brand to their baby. So that poor baby name is…Audi. How the heck it’s possible? Why not go further and choose fuel or diesel? I’m afraid that somewhere in this world some baby already has that name;(

One of the most popular way of giving a name is being inspired by places. Brooklyn and Austin it’s not weird anymore. But there is a baby with Tokyo name. Yep you read it right TOKYO. Maybe he has a brother or sister Kyoto, Osaka? Why not. Nothing can surprise me anymore

I could live with all of this examples but one is making me really sick. So the name is…Hashtag. One day we can be a witnesses when the Hashtag, Instagram and Facebook will meet on one party and they will be chatting about Twitter. That’s true- Social Medias can change people’s life.

Do you like Nutella? Because I love it but it’s not the reason to choose it for baby’s name. No, I’m not joking some parent name their baby after that bread spread. I even don’t want to imagine how hard life will have that baby at school.

You want more crazy names? Here you are:
(this parents need to have some problems),
Mafia No Fear,
Fish and Chips
(my favorite names for twins).

But the leaders with the weird baby’s names are celebrities, famous people, Hollywood biggest stars. Maybe they want to be more famous than they are? Or they think that they are so powerful that they don’t give s*it. I decided to write about few examples which are the most weird for me.

I will start from Nicholas Cageโ€™s son name which is Kal-El. If you don’t know yet it’s the birth name of Superman. Such a relief that he didn’t choose a superhero nickname…But who knows maybe there are kids with Spider man name or Green Lantern? You never know…
Singer Alicia Keys and her husband called their first child Egypt. He can be a best friend of that baby with Tokyo name!
Next lovely singer Eryka Baduh has a daughter Puma and a son (I know what are you thinking now: Adidas? Reebok?) Seven Sirius. I don’t know if it’s mistake and should be Serious but whatever…Nothing will change the fact that those names are really unusual.
Fox India Owen is the name of Mark Owen and Emma Fergusonโ€™s son. Why not Deer? or Dog? Probably they prefer something wildest that’s why?
Barbara Hershey and David Carradine named their child (wait for it)…Free. Is it like buy 1 and 2nd is for free? We didn’t pay for you. You were for free…I’m (really, really) shocked.
Now a little bit about Katie Price and Peter Andreโ€™s daughter name. Katie loved the name Princess while Peter wanted to name their daughter after his mother. They merged their respective motherโ€™s name Thea and Amy to make Tiaamii. So the girl name is Princess Tiaamii. Maybe if I would be a 6 year old kid I would like this name…

I hope that one day someone will banned all this silly names. Or maybe they are weird only for me? What do you think about it? Let me know in comments if you have any friend or family member with ‘unique’ name and what that person think about it.

It’s like before you have your child there is actually very little to hold on to… so some decisions feel really important. Like the name. Of course, after you’ve had your little one you can’t imagine them having another name and that’s it. Some ‘different’ one here though! #dreamteam

I agree that “fashionable” names can go out of fashion fast and you may not like the name you picked after that. Also “weird names” like Fifi Trixibelle or Moon Unit etc… might not be so great for the kid as they grow up. But at the same time, to each their own I guess.

I’m a little old fashioned when it comes to picking names – Give the child a name that will help them succeed in life. Some of my former students started using their middle name when they went to college. One told me he couldn’t believe the spelling “Jearami” for “Jeremy” his parents chose. Katarzyna, it doesn’t seem quite right to me that someone who expresses her opinion as you did here quite often gets criticized for it, being told parents have “the right” to name their baby whatever they like, and yet you apparently don’t have the right to think the unusual or made-up names are “silly.” I wasn’t always thrilled, as a child, with plain old Jean for a name; but I know if my parents had given me a name like those you’ve listed here, I would have taken steps to change it by age four!
