We love wooden toys. For us, there are no better toys. Obviously, we have some plastic toys most of them are those with batteries but we prefer wooden ones. Some of you may think why’s that because plastic toys are nice and so colourful when wooden toys are a little old-school. In our opinion, they are better for the environment and child’s safety. Also, in my eyes, they will never go out of fashion. I remember, as a child, I was playing with wooden blocks. So, I was really happy when I was asked by Jaques of London to review some of their toys. We like them so much that we decided to order from them even a few more.
What you should know about Jaques of London
It’s a family company which has been inventing and making toys and games since 1795. They believe in the power of play and quality family time spent together. Jaques is the oldest games company and sports manufacturer in the world. Passed down from father to son for eight generations, Jaques has been responsible for inventing many well-known games, such as Croquet, Ping Pong, Snakes and Ladders, Ludo, Tiddledy Winks, The Staunton Chess Set, Happy Families, Snap and many more. So, it should not be a surprise that they are really good at making toys and games.
Why do we like Jaques of London toys
First of all their toys are made from wood which, unlike plastic, is a sustainable resource and it’s just a part of the natural bio-cycle. When plastic toys are broken they can last for thousands of years before they degrade. Also, plastic toys can contain BPA known to be a hormone disruptor and PVC which can contain known carcinogens. Toys from Joques of London are made of 100% FSC approved wood and the bright colours are created using water-based paints, making them safe for our little ones.
What toys we tested
We were gifted two wooden toys: a wooden activity cube and a wooden stacking toy because educational toys are our favourites. The first thing we noticed was the bright colours. They are really beautiful and eye-catching which is very important for little kids. You can be sure that they are made of quality wood, not a cheap ones. It’s good to invest in that kind of toy because many low priced wooden toys are made of plywood which can contain all sorts of chemicals. In addition toys from Joques of London can last for many years so in long run it can actually save you a lot of money.
We chose the activity cube because little ones can use it in so many ways. It can be used as a shape sorter, it helps recognise colours and numbers. The top of the cube can be used as an additional toy that will help to develop hand-eye coordination as well as fine motor skills.
Our boy has a lot of fun when he moves brightly coloured beads along the winding and spiralling tracks. Also, he enjoys blocks in various shapes. I really like that he can play with 12 different shapes when most of the toys have only basic shapes like circle, triangle, heart, square and rectangle.
Every block has on one site a number from 1-12 and on the other side, we have animals. So, younger kids can learn about animals, numbers, shapes and colours. All of it in one toy.
As we like educational toys we also chose a stacking toy which contains all the colours of the rainbow. I’m pretty sure that our little girl will love it.
This toy is perfect for developing problem-solving skills. Children will need to think carefully and use trial and error to successfully stack the wooden shapes in the correct order.
By stacking this toy, children will develop resilience, which means they will not give up when something challenges them. Stacking toys can help to develop fine motor skills by precise hand movements.
Both toys are bright and colourful. When you have them in your hands it’s easy to feel that they are made of high-quality wood. They are sturdy and will last for ages. They don’t have any sharp edges and are safe for kids to play with. When I saw them my first thought was how pretty they are. Those colours are really bright and eye-catching.
We are in love. Since we open all boxes and saw a little note with the name of the person who pack each toy for us, we knew it’s a special company with amazing educational toys. It’s really nice and it show’s that they appreciate their customers. Packaging is amazing and boxes look like a present with a black ribbon. As we like it very much we decided to make an order and we bought more lovely toys. Before Christmas, it was a huge sale with amazing discounts so it’s worth checking. We paid £20 for 6 toys including delivery charges. You can see in the pictures how lovely they are.
There was one minus because we had to wait for delivery for about a week but we understand that was a busy period of time. And we were really amazed to see an email with an explanation and we got a £5 discount for next order so I really appreciate that kind of service.
So if you want to give yourself some peace of mind just let your little explorer roam freely with their lovely wooden toys from Jaques of London.
